Automotive industry fundamentals including careers, safety, fasteners, hand tool identification and usage, vehicle systems, electrical fundamentals, service information access and use, automotive chemical and fluid applications, hazardous waste handling, general shop equipment usage, and vehicle servicing. This course covers the fundamentals of automotive engine operation and design, including various engine configurations and internal components. Students will learn mechanical diagnostic testing procedures, engine disassembly and inspection, thread repair, broken bolt removal, and precision measurement techniques. Additional topics include engine assembly, timing chain and belt installation, valve adjustments, and cooling system operation. The course also introduces basic engine machining concepts and emphasizes the proper use of shop tools, equipment, and safety practices. This course provides a comprehensive study of modern automotive suspension and steering systems, with emphasis on diagnostic procedures, inspection techniques, and corrective repairs. Topics include steering geometry, suspension design, wheel alignment principles, supplemental restraint systems (SRS), tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS), and the use of specialized equipment. Students will develop skills in analyzing system performance, adjusting, and applying industry-standard repair practices in a shop environment. Study of Hybrid and Electric Vehicle architecture, operation, diagnosis, service and repair processes. This course prepares students for the electrification portion of ASE L3 certification exam. Students who have previously completed ATEC 90/91, ATEC 290/91, APAU 9750/9751 do not need to take this course.
