The Associate in Arts in Music for Transfer Degree offers students a general study in music. This liberal arts degree prepares students for study as an upper division student junior by combining the theoretical concepts with practical skill building courses to prepare the student with competency in the major. An entrance audition is required for this degree. The courses in this degree focus on harmony and musicianship, applied studio and performance. Recipients of the Associate in Arts in Music for Transfer Degree are guaranteed admissions into a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Music (B.A.) with junior standing at a campus of the California State University system. All students must complete the core classes and then perform a capstone jury in preparation for transfer. All students must also: complete 60 semester units that are transferable to the California State University, to include either of the following: the California State University General Education Breadth requirements, or the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC), a minimum of 18 semester units in a major or area of emphasis, minimum grades of “C” (or "P") in all courses required for the major, and earn a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0. With carefully course planning, this degree may be completed in 60 units by selecting the CSU GE Breath requirements.
