Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. design and demonstrate a personal yoga routine that can be performed at home;
  2. demonstrate poses and breathing routines that create a sense of personal relaxation;
  3. demonstrate a greater range of motion and functional strength in their daily life.
Course Content:
  1. Review of the basic yoga poses and asanas
  2. Review of intermediate balance postures
  3. Exercises for developing functional strength
  4. Designing a yoga routine for daily use
  5. Breathing routines to lower stress while exercising
  6. Keeping a journal to lower stress and improve relaxation

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
  1. Design three routines that can be performed at home, demonstrate one of these routines to the class.
  2. Read the chapter on relaxation breathing. Write a one page paper on the generalities of relaxation breathing and how it activates the parasympathetic nervous system and lowers stress.
  3. Pick five yoga poses that you enjoy and find useful. Demonstrate these exercises to the class.

Upon the completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. Work within a group, or team, to solve problems
  2. Demonstrate and explain the physiological reasons for performing a proper warm up.
