Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. demonstrate more advanced judo techniques and be able to compete in judo tournaments;
  2. demonstrate improved physical development (Renshindo) and mental development (shushindo);
  3. display an improvement in physical fitness, neuromuscular development and mental discipline.
Course Content:
  1. Sode-Tsurikomi Goshi – (Lift and Pulling Sleeve Hip Throw)
  2. Makikomi – (Winding Hip Throw)
  3. Kouchi Gari – (Minor Inner Reaping Throw)
  4. Tateshihiogatame – (Vertical Four-Corner Holding)
  5. Hadaka Jime – (Naked Strangle)
  6. Okuri Eri Jime – (Sliding Lapel Strangle)
  7. Kataha Jime – (One Side Strangle)
  8. Gyakujuji – (Reverse Cross Strangle)
Methods of Instruction:
  1. Demonstration/Exercise
  2. Lecture/Discussion
  3. Simulations
  4. Presentation of audio-visual materials
  5. The material for this course will be presented through verbal explanation, demonstrations, class drills and individual correction and practice. Maximum time will be allotted to student practice.
Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
  1. Describe and demonstrate the forward and backward judo throws.
  2. Read the chapter on the methods of falling in judo. Be prepared to discuss critical points for preventing injury while falling.
  3. Describe Kesa Gatame. Perform with a partner three escapes from Kesa Gatame.
  4. Perform with a partner a five-minute judo routine.

Upon the completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. Demonstrate and explain the physiological reasons for performing a proper warm up.
  2. Work within a group, or team, to solve problems

  • Jacket and belt as worn in the sport of judo are required.
