Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. demonstrate the ability to play a non-stop 40-minute basketball game;
  2. demonstrate drills & techniques to play the game of basketball, including dribbling, passing and shooting with either hand;
  3. demonstrate knowledge of multiple man to man and zone offensive set plays;
  4. demonstrate knowledge of multiple man to man and zone defenses;
  5. discuss and demonstrate ten complex offensive and ten defensive drills;
  6. discuss and demonstrate special situations, out of bounds plays, presses and press breakers.
Course Content:
  1. Present and discuss special situations out of bounds plays, presses, and press breakers
  2. Skills and drills for presentation of passing, hook shot, free throw lay-ups, jump shot, individual defense, team defense, and rebounding
  3. Present multiple man to man and zone offensive sets
  4. Present multiple man to man and zone defensive sets
  5. Rules discussion
  6. Care and use of equipment
  7. Court conduct and conditioning

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
  1. Read the chapter on individual defensive and be prepared to explain terminology and demonstrate each drill.
  2. Analyze and critique classmates' hook shot, jump shot, passing, rebounding and free throw shooting techniques. Provide feedback to help improve their performance.
  3. Diagram on the board the position set up for presses and press breakers.
  4. Describe the following violations and indicate the consequences for each violation. (1) flagrant foul, (2) flagrant two foul, (3) excessive time-outs, (4) leaving the bench area and entering the court.
  5. Read chapters on offensive set plays, versus man to man and zone defenses.
  6. Read chapters on special situations, consisting of out of bounds plays, last-second shots, traps, free-throw situations, and full court end of game plays.
