Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. demonstrate passing drills and defensive strategies needed to play basketball at an advanced level. Those skills include dribbling, passing and shooting with either hand;
  2. demonstrate the ability to play a non-stop 40-minute basketball game;
  3. evaluate individual and team performance in all aspects of the sport, including technique and offensive/defensive strategies inclusive of defensive stance; defensive slides, box-outs, screening, give and go cuts;
  4. discuss and demonstrate man to man and zone offenses and man to man and zone defenses.

  1. Present multiple man to man and zone offensive sets
  2. Present multiple man to man and zone defensive sets
  3. Rules discussion
  4. Care and use of equipment
  5. Basic skills for presentation of the baseball pass, two-hand overhead pass,one-hand wrap around pass, hook shot, free throw and jump shot
  6. Court conduct and conditioning

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
  1. Read the chapter on passing drills and be prepared to explain terminology and demonstrate a two-hand overhead pass, and one-hand wrap around pass, and bounce pass.
  2. Analyze and critique classmates' hook shot, jump shot, and free throw shooting techniques. Provide feedback to help improve their performance.
  3. Diagram on the board the position set up and movements for advanced offensive team play.
  4. Diagram on the board the position set up and movements for advanced defensive team play.
  5. Describe the following violations and indicate the consequence of each violation. (1) Technical foul; (2) double foul; (3) traveling; (4) over and back.
