PEAC SOC2 - Intermediate Soccer

This course is Designed to give the student an understanding and training in the advanced principles of competitive soccer. Training and skill development will be combined in practice and applied in games situations.
Prerequisite: PEAC SOC1.

Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. demonstrate knowledge of the offside trap;
  2. demonstrate shooting techniques from the corner position;
  3. demonstrate the ability to run for 45 minutes and/or 5 miles without getting tired.
Course Content:
  1. Review and practice of fundamentals of soccer:
    1. Kicking
    2. Passing
    3. Dribbling
    4. Trapping
    5. Tackling
    6. Heading
    7. Shooting
  2. Explanation, demonstration, and practice of the various aspects of
    1. Offense
    2. Defense
  3. Game Strategy.
  4. Explanation, demonstration, and practice of drills relative to physical conditioning and improvement of the above skills.
  5. Explanation and discussion of rules and rule changes at the college level.

  5. Discussion Seminar
Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
  1. Watch video and discuss uses of off side trap in game situations
  2. Demonstrate use of the off side trap.
  3. Kick 7 out of 10 balls into the goal from the corner position.
  4. Dribble the ball and run non-stop for 30 minutes.

Upon the completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. Work within a group, or team, to solve problems
  2. Demonstrate and explain the physiological reasons for performing a proper warm up.
