Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
demonstrate knowledge of how and when to use ultrasonic scaler; demonstrate technique for using ultrasonic scaler on a clinical partner;
communicate professional knowledge verbally and in writing to clients, colleagues and other professionals;
develop and implement methods for effective and successful time management in the clinical setting;
provide problem centered situations relating to student clinical experience and develop methods for effective and successful time management in the clinical setting and record keeping;
develop and implement information to the community regarding the quality and availability of oral hygiene services;
articulate and implement appropriate clinical protocols and demonstrate knowledge of clinic operations thru rotations;
integrate the fundamentals of culturally and linguistically appropriate oral health care and services into patient care services;
articulate treatment protocols for HIV, TB, Hepatitis, Diabetes using CDC Guidelines; identify systemic links;
describe the evolution of and evaluation of scientific guidelines, with a focus on guidelines for the use of dental sealants and Interim Therapeutic Restorations (ITRs);
review and describe the evidence supporting partial caries removal; and the efficacy and benefits of Interim Therapeutic Restorations (ITRs);
discuss the history of HWPP #172, and the relationship between AB1174 and radiographic decision making, Tele-dentistry, and placement of Interim Therapeutic Restorations;
discuss and determine proper follow-up protocols for post-ITR placement and potential adverse outcomes.

Research current literature and report on the latest treatment protocols for various medical conditions.
Develop a case presentation for a culture or subculture including facts about the culture or subculture as well as protocols for provding dental hygiene services for the culture or subculture.
