PEAC TEN3 - Advanced Tennis

This course is for tennis players who are at an advanced level of play. The course will involve singles and doubles strategies that utilize high percentage play, footwork and conditioning drills, strategies for courts positioning in both singles and doubles play.
Prerequisite: PEAC TEN2.

Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. demonstrate high percentage play in both singles and doubles play;
  2. describe and demonstrate correct net positioning, using offensive and defensive court positioning;
  3. describe and demonstrate the various formations used doubles , advantages and disadvantages to each strategy.
Course Content:
 
  1. Review and practice of the advanced skills , such as:
    1. Forehand , using 3 different grips.
    2. Backhand, using both topspin and backspin.
    3. Serveing for consistency, depth, and accuracy.
    4. Volley, using proper footwork and correct grip.
    5. These skills will be explained, demonstrated, and practiced on an advanced level.
  2. Explanation, demonstration, and practice of the following skills:
    1. Forehand , using 3 different grips.
    2. Net play, poaching, faking, formations, and court positioning.
    3. Conditioning for tennis competition.
  3. Explanation, demonstration and practice of advanced team stategy relative to:
    1. Singles play.
    2. Doubles play.

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
  1. Read the chapter on doubles play and be prepared to explain pros and cons of the various doubles formations.
  2. Read the chapter on serving, and be prepared to explain how placement of the serve directly affects what your doubles partner can do at hte net position.
  3. Compare and contrast high percentage play vs. low percentage play, in regards to shot selection.
  4. Demonstrate lob technique and describe the different grips and spin that can be used for this shot.

Upon the completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. Demonstrate and explain physiological reasons for performing a proper warm up.
