Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
competently perform basic skills of forehand, backhand, serve, and volley;
explain and employ, in match play, the formal rules and informal etiquette of tennis;
discuss the origins and dangers of hypertension and pre-diabetes;
recognize the symptoms of hypertension and pre-diabetes in themselves or a family member;
Identify metabolic syndrome.
Course Content:
Role of resistance exercise in overall health and wellness.
Principles of resistance exercise.
Review and practice of the elementary racket skills
Conditioning for Tennis Competition
Explanation, demonstration and practice of advanced team strategy relative to singles and doubles

Textbook reading assignments
The materials for the course are presented by the lecture-demonstration method. Instruction will be given through the use of large groups, small groups, and on an individual basis. Student practice will follow the same procedures. Student discussions will be used to review course content.
Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
Read the chapter on the rules of tennis and describe ways a fault may occur when serving.
Demonstrate the backhand volley technique and describe the different methods to grip the racket.
Read the chapter on tennis grips and be prepared to demonstrate and explain the grip of the serve.
Compare and contrast the methods of scoring in amateur and professional tennis.
