The fourth in a series of walking fitness courses to improve cardiovascular fitness. The goal of this course is bridge the gap between walking and jogging through a gradual and progressive training plan.
Prerequisite: PEAC WLK3.

Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. demonstrate a series of exercises to strengthen the total body and prevent injuries due to running/walking;
  2. demonstrate a basic understanding of the training process and how it relates to long term health and wellness;
  3. write a one week individual training plan demonstrating the concepts of adaptation and super compensation.
Course Content:
1. Total body strengthening and conditioning exercises from dynamic flexibility to maxiumum strength.
2. Introduction to the basic strengthening lifts.
3. Foot strengtheing exercises and sprint drills.
4. Using your surrounding environment to enhance the training process.
5. Training, adaptation and supercompensation.  How it relates to long term health and wellness.
6. Making the transition from walking to jogging.
7. Building an individual training plan.

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
  1. Demonstrate to the class three exercises to prevent injuries in walking/running.
  2. Write a one page paper on how exercise stresses the body and super compensation takes place within the body.
  3. Build an individualized one week training plan and present it to the class.

  1. Demonstrate and explain the physiological reasons for performing a proper warm up.
