Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
demonstrate a knowledge of strength training periodization protocol;
demonstrate proper techniques used in muscular power training;
develop and demonstrate a higher rate of acceleration.
Course Content:
Safety in the weight room and over stress injuries.
Demonstration of muscular power.
Explanation and demonstration of the different tools that provide different stimulus.
Explaination and demonstration of the stretch-reflex principle.
Explanation and demonstration of creating a higher rate of acceleration through lighter loads and faster contraction velocity repetitions.
Explanation and demonstration of low volume & full recovery (longer rest periods)- FITT Principles.
Methods of Instruction:
Demonstration/Exercise
Lecture/Discussion
Practice/Demonstration
Textbook reading assignments
Distance Education
Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
Watch video presentations of muscular power techniques. Then write a paper explaining different methods to develop power.
Design a chart to analyze lifting technique. Use this chart to critique a classmate's lifting technique.
Read the chapter on lifting technique and be prepared to discuss important technique points in 3 different muscular power lifts.
Exams/Tests
Final Examination
Class Performance
Demonstration of practice and skills
Upon the completion of this course, the student should be able to:
Demonstrate improved fitness, and overall wellness, by participating in a consistent training program
Work within a group, or team, to solve problems
