Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. describe the rules, scoring system, and equipment of badminton;
  2. execute fundamental badminton skills such as serving, overhead strokes, clears, smash;
  3. demonstrate basic strategies for both singles and doubles matches;
  4. track their blood pressure;
  5. recognize the symptoms of hypertension and pre-diabetes;
  6. discuss the origins and dangers of hypertension and pre-diabetes;
  7. demonstrate increased strength, flexibility, agility, and cardiovascular fitness.
Course Content:
  1. Equipment, rules and scoring system. 
  2. Movement and stroke technique.
  3. Footwork and requet handling 
  4. Serve techniques 
  5. Overhead strokes, clears, drop shots, smash, etc. (doubles) 
  6. Basic strategy for singles and doubles . 
  7. Singles, doubles, and mixed doubles tournament play.
  8. Blood pressure: What is it? What does it mean?
  9. Symptoms of pre-diabetes
  10. High glycemic foods and the effect on your health 
Methods of Instruction:
  1. Demonstration/Exercise
  2. Group Activities
  3. Performance
  4. Presentation of audio-visual materials
  5. Laboratory exercises
Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
  1. Demonstrate the differences between the drop shot and the smash.
  2. Demonstrate the use of the overhead clear shot, from the deep backhand corner of the court.
  3. Read the chapter on serve techniques. Be prepared to describe and demonstrate three types of serves.
  4. Measure blood pressure twice weekly over six weeks. Keep a journal of each day's measure.
  5. Keep a three week food journal. Identify those foods that improve blood pressure and blood sugar

Upon the completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. demonstrate the physiological importance of warming up
  2. demonstrate the ability to work and solve problems in a small group
