This course is designed to teach the intermediate skills of volleyball and to promote sportsmanship in a coeducational activity. Students will learn about current rules and effective game strategy.

Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. demonstrate knowledge of the current rules of the game;
  2. describe and perform fundamental volleyball techniques such as serving, passing, setting, hitting, blocking, foot movement and body positioning during game play;
  3. perform volleyball specific warm up that prepares the body for the physical demands of the sport;
  4. recognize offensive and defensive strategies and respond accordingly;
  5. make decisions based on the current game play.
Course Content:
  1. Explanation, demonstration and practice of basic and intermediate volleyball skills including:Overhead pass  
  2. Forearm pass 
  3. Serve 
  4. Dig 
  5. Setting 
  6. Spiking 
  7. Service receipt 
  8. Net recovery
  9. Current rules and interpretations
  10. Intermediate offensive and defensive team play
  11. Officiating signs and skills

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
  1. Read the chapter on defensive play and blocking. Demonstrate to the class how two players should approach the net to block.
  2. Design a volleyball warm up routine on paper then take the class through your routine.
  3. Demonstrate to the class a standing serve and a jump serve.
