Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
demonstrate knowledge of the current rules of the game;
describe and perform fundamental volleyball techniques such as serving, passing, setting, hitting, blocking, foot movement and body positioning;
perform volleyball specific warm up that prepares the body for the physical demands of the sport;
track their blood pressure on a consistent basis;
recognize offensive and defensive strategies and respond accordingly.

Explanation, demonstration and practice of basic volleyball skills
Overhead pass
Forearm pass
Serve

Net recovery
Current rules and interpretations.
Basic offensive and defensive team play.
Officiating signs and skills
Blood Pressure
High gycemic foods and pre-diabetes
Methods of Instruction:
Demonstration/Exercise
Presentation of audio-visual materials
Practice/Demonstration
The class will be taught by means of explanation, class drills, demonstration, and lecture.
Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
Read the chapter on passing and digging a volleyball. Critique and demonstrate the difference between both skills.
View volleyball game video and describe the serving technique and tendencies of one player.
Keep a six week journal demonstrating that blood pressure was measured at least three times per week.
Read the chapter on the types of serves in volleyball. Be prepared to demonstrate and discuss what particular serves a beginner should start with and why.
Write a critique of your performance of a class game.
A written examination to determine the student's understanding of skills and rules.
Degree of mastery in basic volleyball skills.
Satisfactory attendance and participation throughout the duration of the course.
Class Participation
Upon the completion of this course, the student should be able to:
Demonstrate and explain the physiological reasons for performing a proper warm up.
Gym clothes, socks and tennis shoes. Long sleeve t-shirts may by needed for appropriate drills. Recommended; knee pads and a water bottle.
