Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. demonstrate basic safety and etiquette of archery;
  2. demonstrate an improvement in their shooting proficiently, i.e., with a higher arrow average;
  3. track their blood pressure;
  4. discuss the origins and dangers of hypertension and pre-diabetes;
  5. recognize the symptoms of hypertension and pre-diabetes;
  6. demonstrate how to shoot in a simple archery tournament.
Course Content:
 
  1. History of the sport
  2. Care and selection of equipment 
  3. Fundamentals of shooting 
  4. Safety rules 
  5. Common archery terms 
  6. Interclass Tournaments  
  7. Novelty shoots
  8. Role of resistance exercise in overall health and wellness.
  9. Principles of resistance exercise.  
  10. Dangers of hypertension and pre-diabetes.

  9. The materials for this course will be presented by means of lecture, demonstration, class discussion, and to a large degree, individual help with shooting skills.
Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
  1. Read the chapter on safety on the shooting range then discuss with the class essential safety rules for archery
  2. Review the rules for safety on the archery range then walk through the rules showing examples of do's and don'ts on the range
  3. Demonstrate how to safely string a bow
  4. Demonstrate how to shoot at various distances in archery
  5. Design and implement an archery group activity for the class
  6. Measure blood pressure twice weekly over six weeks. Keep a journal of each day's measure.

  • Students are required to wear flat heeled shoes, and to provide leather equipment, i.e., arm guard and either finger tab or shooting glove.
