Designed to provide basic information to students wishing to improve their physical fitness through the use of progressive resistance exercises. The material for the course is predicated upon the use of sound physiological principles. Students will learn about training and prevention of metabolic syndrome through diet and exercise in this course.
Prerequisite: PEAC WOW1.

Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
demonstrate the ability to improve flexibility;
demonstrate the ability to calculate body fat;
demonstrate a back squat;
demonstrate a clean;
demonstrate a straight leg dead lift;
demonstrate the ability to calculate target heart rate training zones;
demonstrate three methods to static stretch;
demonstrate three dynamic flexibility exercises.

Safety considerations and weight room etiquette
Principles of periodization when resistance exercise
Squats
Dead lifts

Calculation of target heart rates
Resistance exercises to increase cardiovascular endurance

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
Watch the video on proper back position for the dead lift. Write a short paper identifying the keys points to a safe and proper dead lift.
Read the chapter on cardiovascular training. Calculate your target heart rate training numbers.
Read the chapter on cleans. Then watch the video on proper positioning for cleans. Design a chart that can be used to analyze whether a clean is being performed safely.
