Builds upon the skills and techniques introduced in Intermediate Watercolor, so that the student can solve composition problems as well as begin to utilize personal expressions. Emphasizes composition, concept and visualization skills.
Prerequisite: ART 7B.

Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
solve advanced compositional problems using watercolors;
deal with complicated images, worked from numerous sources;
develop a critical view of personal work;
continue to improve watercolor skills and techniques developed in 7A & 7B.
create a series of work based upon their own concepts and ideas;
utilize museums and galleries as a learning source.

Student will apply advanced competency in their painted works use of:

Student will apply a variety of strategies of paint manipulation during the painting of their works of art
Students will apply conceptual and emotional assumptions of oneself and painters other than oneself during the creative process

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
Paint a watercolor painting with the focal points on or near the edge of the paper
Paint a watercolor painting based on a montage of at least seven images
Paint a watercolor painting using other materials and water-based mediums as well as transparent watercolor
Paint a watercolor painting in which there is a focal point in the foreground, one in the middle ground and one in the background
Series of critiques during and at end of each semester
Understanding of design and technique through completion of work, followed by discussions of these individual works
Completion of a final watercolor painting based on student's own concepts
Continuing improvement of the student's skills, techniques, images and concepts through exhbitions, shows, exposure of work, and student participation in competitions
Upon the completion of this course, the student should be able to:
Student will be able to solve advanced compositional problems using watercolor
Students will reinterpret historical influences as a basis for their work.
Student will continue to improve watercolor skills & technique develop in 7A and 7B

Webb, David (2016). Painting in Watercolor: The Indispensable Guide Firefly Books; Illustrated edition .
Material list to be provided at the start of the course, to include: various brushes, watercolor paints, palette, transportation container, papers, and other items such as easel, sponges, etc.
