Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
demonstrate facility in taking lecture notes;
participate appropriately in class discussions;
show proficiency in asking and answering relevant questions;
make short presentations on academic topics.

High Intermediate listening skills development
Listening comprehension of academic lectures, podcasts and presentations
Note-taking strategies
Discussion skills and vocabulary for class and group work
Sharing opinions and consensus building
Polite disagreement and conflict resolution
Monitoring personal participation levels and stratagies to engage quiet group members
Vocabulary building at the high intermediate level
Academic and professional vocabulary
High use idoms in the college, professional, and community environment.
Question-asking skills appropriate for American college classrooms
Grammatical formation of all question types
Interviewing and information gathering in academic and professional settings and role plays
Appropriate use of clarifying questions for directions, lectures and presentations

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
Listen to a lecture, take notes on all numbers (figures, dates, measurements, etc.), and then explain why they are relevant in your own words.
Interview an instructor from a course you are interested in taking. Find out the pre-requisites, course content, major assignments, and the teachers expectations for student participation and homework. Write up a report and present your findings to a small group.
Make an oral presentation of approximately 5 minutes on a successful entrepreneur using a slideshow and answer questions from the audience.
