ART 21 - Individual Projects in Ceramic Sculpture

Projects in Ceramic Sculpture for intermediate to advanced students. Building on previous knowledge and skills acquired from previous assignments in Beginning Sculpture, students will produce artwork that expresses their individual styles.
Prerequisite: ART 17A.

Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. develop a unique body of work that successfully promotes the students’ ideas;
  2. refine existing sculpture skills and techniques;
  3. demonstrate an appropriate use of advanced glaze and design application and its relationship to form;
  4. define and pursue individual project goals and successfully design and execute a final project start to finish;
  5. utilize museums and galleries as a learning source.

  2. Advanced design application and its relationship to form
  3. Elements involved in project definition and execution
  4. Museums and galleries as a learning source
Course Content (Studio):
  1. Advanced mold making
  2. Select and complete a specific project in consultation with instructor

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
  1. Go to museums and galleries to choose specific artists' techniques and concepts that you can incorporate in your own projects
  2. Select and complete a specific project in consultation with instructor
  3. Define, develop and create a series of forms to convey your concept
  4. Begin the working habit of self-promotion professional practices.
  1. Class participation, individual critique, discussions
  2. Completion and evalution of a final student project

Upon the completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. Critique masterpieces and student sculptures incorporating elements and principles of three dimensional design and using sculpture terminology
  2. Express creative concepts
  3. Develop a unique body of work that successfully promotes the students ideas while refining exisating sculptures skills and techniques
