Students will learn resistance and plyometric training methods to dramatically improve bat, leg and throwing speed. Students must have experience in resistance training and a high level of skill in the sport of baseball to enroll in this course.
Prerequisite: PEAC SBB2.

Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
improve their overall speed running to first base;
demonstrate five exercises that will improve speed and power on the playing field;
demonstrate three different grips when throwing a baseball;
demonstrate the decision-making skills for getting the lead runner out while playing in the field.
Course Content:
Sprint drills and exercises to improve speed and power
Plyometric training to increase leg and arm speed
Grips for throwing baseball
What each grip does to the flight of the ball
Hitting the cutoff man to control the lead runner on the base path
When to throw past the cutoff man
Strategy/tactics to improve baseball awareness, decision-making, and execution.

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
Read the chapter on strength and injury prevention. Be prepared to discuss how increasing strength can prevent injuries.
Make a chart of the exercises and drills that improve speed and arm strength.
On paper design a plan to enhance your throwing ability.
Write an evaluation of your improvement from the beginning of class to the end. Use your pre- and post- assessments in your evaluation.
