ART 2C - Individual Projects in Drawing

Individual project development for advanced drawers to create a personal and related body of eight drawings. Concept definition and development to be determined by the student and approved by the instructor.
Prerequisite: ART 2B.

Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. develop a unique body of work that successfully promotes the students’ ideas;
  2. refine existing skills and techniques;
  3. define and pursue individual project goals and successfully design and execute a final project start to finish;

Course Content (Studio):
  1. Creation of a series conceptually related of drawings
  2. Select and complete a specific project in consultation with instructor
  3. Produce works of art in a variety of topics:
    1. historic generes 
    2. contemporary concepts
    3. creative problem solving
    4. unusual subject matter
    5. compositional challenges
  4. Produce drawings within a range of surface layering
    1. representational 
    2. abstraction
  5. Create projects utilizing conventional and non-conventional techniques in the following wet and dry media
    1. chalk/Pastel
    2. water Color
    3. oil Pastel
    4. colored Pencil
  6. Production of a professional quality portfolio of drawings

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
  1. Go to museums and galleries to choose specific artists' techniques and concepts that you can incorporate in your own projects.
  2. Select and complete a specific project in consultation with instructor.
  3. Define, develop and create a series of drawings to convey your concept.
  4. Begin the working habit of self-promotion professional practices.

Upon the completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. Create a series of conceptually related drawings.
  2. Develop ways to critique own work for self-improvement.
  3. Draw successfully using advanced skill with the elements of line, shape, value, texture, and space.
  4. Organize a professional presentation for showcasing the final drawings.

  • The supplies cost about $50.00.
  • Drawing paper pad, Strathmore #400-401, smooth finish, 80lb., 9” by 12”
  • Two Mechanical pencils, Steadtler #925, size .003, one with HB graphite and one with 2B graphite
  • Three Wooden pencils, one HB graphite, one 2B graphite and one 4B graphite
  • Erasers, (1) block, half ink and half pencil, (2) kneaded, (3) wooden stick with brush end and (4) red pencil cap
