A full body conditioning class that will utilize equipment and facilities available to the general public to create an intense workout. Training in all five of the areas of fitness will be developed. Students will learn about training and prevention of metabolic syndrome through diet and exercise.

Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
differentiate between the contributions made by flexibility, resistance training, core strengthening, and cardiovascular exercise to physical fitness;
demonstrate exercise monitoring techniques such as heart rate monitoring;
create personal short-term goals based upon fitness assessments;
evaluate the role of physical fitness and an active, healthy lifestyle, in overall well-being;
assess fitness levels in the areas of muscular strength, muscular endurance and flexibility;
discuss the origins and dangers of hypertension and pre-diabetes;
discuss the role of resistance training in a healthy lifestyle.
Course Content:
Pre-fitness assessments.
Health benefits of increasing flexibility, strength development, core strengthening, and cardiovascular fitness.
Fitness training procedures and progressions.
Short-term goalsetting based upon fitness assessment.
The importance of combining physical fitness, nutrition, and stress-reduction in overall well-being.
Post-fitness assessments and lifestyle plans.
Dangers of hypertension and pre-diabetes.
Tracking your blood pressure.
Identify problem foods as they relate to diabetes and hypertension.

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
Read the chapter on flexibility and evaluate the long-term physical benefits of maintaining an adequate level of flexibility.
Read the chapter on exercise programs and analyze the effects of cardiovascular exercise on body composition.
Calculate the target heart rate to exercise at 75% of their heart rate maximum.
Demonstrate in class five exercises to develop core strength.
Measure blood pressure twice weekly over six weeks. Keep a journal of each day's measure
Keep a 12-week exercise journal. In the journal record daily activity, time spent on the activity, how you felt and your exercise heart rate. Once every two weeks record your hips to waist measure.
Keep a three-week food journal. Identify those foods that improve blood pressure and blood sugar.
