Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
demonstrate an understanding of target heart rate training;
perform the basic lifts of bench press, squat and bent over row properly;
demonstrate a hamstring stretch properly;
demonstrate two stretches to increase flexibility in the lower legs;
demonstrate three exercises to strengthen the core.
Course Content:
Target heart rate training and why it is important for cardiovascular fitness.
Introduction to the basic lifts in the weight room.
Improving flexibility: When it should be performed and how it should executed.
Strengthening the core and back:Why it is importand and how to correctly address these areas.
Strength training: How often? How much?
Basic nutrition: What should I eat to improve?

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
Read the chapter on flexibility and write a short paragraph on when static stretching should be performed and why.
Read the chapter on target heart rate training and figure out your target heart rate training numbers for training at 60%, 70% and 85% of predicted maximum heart rate.
Explain to the class what is a dynamic warm-up and why it is important prior to exercise.
