Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. demonstrate a knowledge of the rules of soccer;
  2. recognize and describe the responsibilities of the various soccer positions;
  3. demonstrate the ability to trap the ball in play;
  4. demonstrate the ability to kick the ball with either leg;
  5. identify common foods consumed after physical activity that will put them at risk for developing type II diabetes.
Course Content:
  1. Basic rules of soccer play
  2. Kicking with inside and outside of the foot
  3. Passing with either foot
  4. Positions and responsibilities for each position on the field
  5. Basics of trapping the ball in play
  6. Blood pressure readings: what they mean and implications for health and wellness
  7. Healthy eating: What is entails and how it can prevent chronic disease

  7. Handouts and rule interpretations.
Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
  1. Read the chapter on off sides in the text and then demonstrate to the class, using your classmates, what off sides looks like
  2. Write a short paper describing the risks of hypertension and how it may affect long term health and wellness. In the paper include three methods that can be used to lower high blood pressure.
  3. Diagram on paper a basic offensive strategy and a basic defensive strategy that can be used in recreational soccer.

  1. Demonstrate and explain the physiological reasons for performing a proper warm up.
