Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. train at a competitive level for 90-120 minutes;
  2. demonstrate an understanding of complex set design, and efficient use of pace clock within this parameter;
  3. track and develop training, nutrition, sleep log;
  4. demonstrate an understanding of race strategy;
  5. implement and use Goal Setting, Imagery and other Sport Psychology tools as they pertain to the competitive swimmer.
Course Content:
  1. Sustained use of essential energy systems' demands of the competitive swimmer, specifially threshold, lactate and anaerobic systems.
  2. Use of effective heart rate parameters as it relates to specific energy system demands.
  3. Ability to design training sets as they pertain to specific training of various energy systems.
  4. Use and implementation of various Sport Psychology tools in training and competiton.

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
  1. Read chapter on "The Life of the Competitive Swimmer, in and out of the pool." Write training log with examples of personal reflection.
  2. Review video of individualized student swimming technique demonstrated in class, prepare oral presentation of learning techniques and water demonstration.
  3. Oral presentation of the student's video review, highlighting stroke correction and adjustment of technique.
