PEAC LSF2 - Beginning Lap Swimming for Cardiovascular Fitness

Designed to develop cardiovascular fitness in the accomplished swimmer and introduce the student to competitive swim training concepts.
Prerequisite: PEAC LSF1.

Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. demonstrate ability to swim/train for 45-60 minutes;
  2. demonstrate ability to incorporate use of Pace Clock effectively within the parameters of multi-disciplinary swim training.
  3. demonstrated ability to use all training aides, such as hand paddles, pull buoys, kickboard, and fins.
Course Content:
  1. Different componenets of energy systems and their effect on cardiovascular conditioning in the swimmer.
  2. Effective heart rate tracking during swim training.
  3. Training set design and implementation.
  4. Goal Setting Techniques for achievement of training goals.

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
  1. Read the chapter on "Basic Training for the pre-competitive swimmer." Prepare a 10 presentation for the class including a demonstration.

Upon the completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. Demonstrate fitness through swimming.
