This is an advanced sport specific course for students to increase their individual skills in the sport of baseball. This course is not for beginning baseball enthusiasts.
Prerequisite: Students must possess advanced baseball skills. Students should be enrolled in ATHBB13

Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. demonstrate the sport-specific physical conditioning required to compete in baseball;
  2. demonstrate the correct mechanics and position play on defense when playing baseball.
  3. demonstrate mental training strategies (goal setting, concentration techniques, etc.) during competition;
  4. evaluate individual performance in all aspects of the sport;
  5. demonstrate positive social behavior (sportsmanship, leadership, group dynamics, etc.);
  6. evaluate team performance in all aspects of the sport including technique and offensive/defensive strategies.
Course Content:
  1. Practice and performance of offensive specific skills (hitting, situational hitting, short game, base running)
  2. Practice and performance of position-specific skills (outfielders, infielders, pitchers).
  3. Development, execution, and evaluation of team offensive and defensive strategies.
  4. Sport -Specific physiological training &  conditioning. 
  5. Mental Training & performance enhancing strategies.
Methods of Instruction:
  1. Demonstration/Exercise
  2. Lecture/Discussion
  3. Practice/Demonstration
  4. Presentation of audio-visual materials
Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
  1. Read the chapter on "Relaxation for Game Performance" and be prepared to discuss various techniques of relaxation.
  2. Chart, analyze and critique one teammate's defensive and offensive execution during a "pre-game execution" practice situation.
  3. Design a daily practice plan that emphasizes both offensive and defensive preparation.
  4. Describe and analyze game strategies as they relate to both the offense and the defense.
  5. Take the Baseball IQ Tests- multiple choice and true/false. Analyze your score and identify areas for improvement.

Upon the completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. Demonstrate and explain the physiological reasons for performing a proper warm up.
  2. Work within a group, or team, to solve problems
