Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
demonstrate the ability to run non-stop for a minimum of 30 minutes;
demonstrate a proper dynamic warm-up routine;
demonstrate a proper cool down and static flexibility routine.
Course Content:
Introduction of dynamic warm-up and physiological changes that occur during the warm-up
Training the aerobic energy system
Training the anaerobic energy system
The physiological reasons behind cooling down
Static stretching activities to improve flexibility and recovery

Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
1. Typical Assignments
Calculate maximum heart rate. Calculate 90%, 80% and 70% of maximum heart rate. Run at each of the following heart rates for 1.5 minutes.
Read the chapter on dynamic warm-ups and write a paper explaining the reason behind warming up.
Demonstrate to the class six static stretching exercises.
