Designed to provide individualized training for the intermediate level to highly competitive level female basketball player. There will be an emphasis on individual training and skills in a demanding classroom environment.

Measurable Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. demonstrate an increased level of overall fitness as it relates to basketball;
  2. demonstrate the basketball skills to participate in a competitive team activity;
  3. demonstrate the ability to track their blood pressure on a regular basis;
  4. explain the rules of basketball;
  5. demonstate an ability to train and play at a high level of cardiovascular fitness.
Course Content:
  1. Rules of basketball.
  2. Basic individual and team offensive basketball techniques, i.e., passing, receiving, dribbling, shooting, and driving.
  3. Basic individual and team defensive basketball techniques, i.e., hand position, footwork, body position.
  4. Basic individual and team rebounding techniques
  5. Offensive team strategies.
  6. Defensive team strategies.
  7. Skills repetition and team play

  6. Textbook reading assignments
  7. Presentation of audio-visual materials
Assignments and Methods of Evaluating Student Progress:
  1. Create a chart demonstrating your knowledge of the footwork of defensive close-out, ready-stance, and defensive slides. Make sure you show the similarities and differences.
  2. Read the chapter on offensive techniques and explain the benefits of committing to develop, on a regular basis, the fundamentals of footwork and conditioning.
  3. Students will be observed and tested on correct ball handling skills. Advance the ball without commiting the violations of traveling and double dribbling.
  4. Keep a journal that demonstrates over six weeks that blood pressure has been taken and recorded in the journal at least three times per week.
